The use of lasers in dentistry has been around for quite some time now. Laser treatments can eliminate the need for anesthesia and hand tools like drills, and they are super-precise. At Copper Creek Dental, we recently introduced the Solea laser as an option. Here’s what you can expect if you make an appointment for laser dentistry.
Solea Laser Dentistry Treatments
The Solea laser uses a focused beam of light to remove decay or reshape the teeth and gums. Because of the high frequency of the laser, most procedures can be performed without anesthesia. The high-frequency pulse (1,000 pulses per second) overrides the pain receptors in the brain and instantly cauterizes damaged tissue, so there’s no bleeding and no discomfort.
Here are a few of the ways we use the Solea laser:
- Drill-free fillings
- Treating hypersensitive teeth
- Reshaping the gums to correct a “gummy smile”
- Removing growths in the mouth
- Snoring and sleep apnea therapy
What Happens During a Laser Dentistry Appointment?
Before a laser dental procedure, we will have you put on a pair of protective glasses to shield your eyes from the laser. They program the laser for a quick and precise procedure. There may be a few additional steps depending on the type of treatment you need.
After your treatment is complete, we will give you detailed aftercare instructions to follow. Depending on the procedure, you may be able to return to your normal routine immediately or within one to three days. As with any dental treatments, there may be some discomfort, swelling, or bruising. However, our patients report that laser treatments are far more comfortable and less painful than standard dental procedures.
