Simple & Surgical Tooth Extractions in South Jordan, Utah
At Copper Creek Dental, we aim to preserve your natural teeth whenever possible. But sometimes, a tooth can’t be saved and must be removed in the best interest of your overall health. We provide safe and effective tooth extractions for patients in South Jordan and nearby areas. With our advanced in-house technology, we will take 3D radiographs of your mouth that help us accurately determine when tooth extraction is necessary, and which type you may need.
When Is Tooth Extraction Necessary?
There are a variety of reasons we may recommend a tooth extraction. For instance, the damage from tooth decay, gum disease, or an injury may be so extensive that the tooth cannot be preserved with a filling or crown. Or an incoming tooth may get stuck below the gums, where it remains vulnerable to cavities and puts pressure on nearby teeth. Removing the affected tooth protects your remaining teeth from decay and other complications.
Simple Tooth Extractions
Teeth above the gumline can typically be removed through a simple extraction. This type of procedure is minimally invasive and does not require surgery, so the recovery time is brief.
During a simple extraction, we numb the area around the tooth, then gently and skillfully loosen and pull the tooth out. Next, we simply clean the extraction site so that your mouth can begin safely healing. In most cases, the whole process takes about 20 to 40 minutes.
Surgical Tooth Extractions
Certain situations merit a more advanced approach. When the end goal includes replacing the tooth being removed we take precautions around the supporting bone.
Teeth below the gum line, such as broken teeth and impacted wisdom teeth, and multi-rooted teeth may need a surgical extraction. We are committed to making your experience as comfortable as possible for every type of procedure. With surgical extractions, we first numb the area and administer safe and effective conscious sedation so that you feel no pain during the procedure.
We then make a small incision in your gums and remove the tooth hidden beneath. Finally, we clean and stitch the area to allow for healing. Surgical tooth extractions are generally completed in less than an hour. Our expert skill set allows us to preserve the supporting bone and tissues during surgery to restore your mouth to full function once healing is complete.
Aftercare
We help ensure you have a speedy and healthy recovery after tooth extraction with platelet-rich fibrin therapy (PRF). PRF promotes your body’s natural healing ability to prevent infection. However, you will also need to take proper care at home during the healing process.
You will need to rest for at least one day after a simple extraction, and for two to three days after surgical extraction. You will also need someone to drive you home after a surgical extraction procedure. And for both simple and surgical extractions, you must eat a soft food diet for as long as instructed.
After your mouth has healed, we can discuss the best method for how to replace the tooth if necessary, such as with a dental implant.
