What You Need to Know About CEREC Dental Crowns

When your tooth is severely damaged by tooth decay, a filling may not be enough to restore the tooth. Sometimes, your dentist may suggest a dental crown to completely cover and protect the tooth. And with CEREC dental crowns, you can have your tooth restored in a single appointment. Here’s everything you should know about how this advanced technology can efficiently transform your smile.

Frequently Asked Questions About CEREC Dental Crowns

What Are CEREC Crowns?

CEREC stands for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.” This modern technology involves scanning your mouth to take a digital impression of your teeth, then uploading the scan to an advanced design program. The computer is then able to design and mill a crown that fits as comfortably and accurately as possible.

Do CEREC Crowns Look Natural?

CEREC crowns are crafted from high-quality materials that mimic the natural color and translucency of your other teeth. They blend seamlessly into your smile, helping restore its appearance and your self-confidence.

How Long Do CEREC Dental Crowns Last?

Because CEREC crowns are made from such strong and durable materials, they have an excellent lifespan. They fully restore the function of a weakened tooth, so you will be able to bite and chew normally again.

With proper care, CEREC dental crowns can last beyond 15 years. Practicing good oral hygiene, attending your regular dental checkups, and avoiding bad habits like teeth grinding, nail-biting, and smoking can help extend the lifespan of your CEREC crown.

Can I Really Get CEREC Crowns in One Appointment?

Traditional crowns usually require multiple appointments and a temporary crown. CEREC crowns, however, can be placed in a single appointment. At Copper Creek Dental, we house advanced CAD/CAM technology right in our office that allows us to design, fabricate, and place crowns all on the same day.

What Is the Procedure for Getting a CEREC Dental Crown?

Step 1: Examination

First, we need to assess your dental health and determine whether a CEREC crown is the right treatment option for you.

Step 2: Preparation

If you do need a CEREC dental crown, then we will prep your tooth by removing old fillings or decayed portions of the tooth.

Step 3: Digital Impression

Next, we take a digital 3D impression of your teeth using a special intraoral camera. This 3D image is used as the blueprint for designing your custom crown.

Step 4: Crown Design

Using advanced CAD software, we will construct a precise digital model for your crown. The crown is completely customized to create the perfect shape, size, and color for your unique smile.

Step 5: Milling and Fabrication

The crown is milled on-site, which takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 6: Placement

Once the crown is ready, we will carefully cement it over your tooth, ensuring a secure fit and precise alignment. We’ll make any adjustments necessary to ensure a comfortable bite, and then you’ll be ready to show off your new smile!
